I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I studied history and economics in college and (for a while) mathematics in grad school. Before I became a minister, I worked at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis for 18 years. I am blessed with an amazing family. I live in Indianapolis with my wife, Susanne and one of our adult children. Our other two adult children live in Bloomington, Indiana. You can read more about my life and my call to ministry here.

My hobbies include playing guitar and learning Spanish. Here I am playing the guitar for the children at the week long “Peace Camp” held during the summer at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis (UUI).

This is Shadow. He is a good boy. We also live with a golden retriever named Molly and a turtle named Mike D.

Susanne and I are seen here hand-delivering sealed invitations to “Wizard Camp” to UUI families. Susanne is a DRE and a fierce anti-racist activist and inspires me to no end. The letters were her idea. I have learned a lot about making church fun from watching her.

Picking up donuts for a Senior High youth class at church. I am a big believer in snacks. Also donuts.

This is me and my two brothers hanging out at our parents’ house in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I’m the middle child, on the couch and in life. My older brother lives in Swarthmore and is a health care entrepreneur. His wife Lysa teaches math. They help run a youth non-profit called the ABC House. My younger brother lives in Chicago and works in financial risk management. He and his wife Leah both have PhDs in particle physics and run marathons. He also ran Indivisible Chicago through the last election. She worked on the Higgs Boson. You don’t have to do ALL the things, I tell them.

Susanne and I on our wedding day. I met Susanne when she was living in Houston, Texas and I was living in Indianapolis. We got married in a town in Arkansas halfway in between. The wedding was a small, family affair and a very joyous day. Somehow we ended up with two cakes.

Between my two brothers I have five nibblings* who are just the best, most interesting, and fun kids to spend time with. They are into music, sports, and the outdoors. Also, they are really good at TikTok. (*Gender neutral term for the child of a sibling.)

Our young adult children: (from left to right) Sam, Claudia, and Jordan. Sam works on indigenous language reclamation, Claudia is an artist and works with young children, and Jordan is studying public health. They are smart, kind, hilarious, independent-minded, and good. We are proud of them.
